KENTFIELD, CARESIDENCE - LAWN REPLACED WITH DECOMPOSED GRANITE AND LOW WATER PLANTINGS.
An overgrown garden and lawn, replaced with drought-tolerant plants and eco-friendly alternatives. A cool Fire Pit and recycled plastic Loll chairs complete the design!
The homeowner had replaced the lawn twice in this part of their landscape and wanted an alternative. I recommended a couple of design options and materials. The final decision was to replace the lawn with decomposed granite. We incorporated Three Rivers flagstone pavers to match the existing patio.
My design incorporated a curved planting bed towards the center of the landscape to provide a partial visual barrier, providing more privacy when approaching the front entrance. I designed a section of the landscape that has a view of the distant hills of Marin County to include a sitting area and an artful fire pit. We used a beautiful rustic cauldron for the Fire Pit and connected a gas line. The client purchased Loll chairs, made from recycled plastic, keeping with the sustainable theme. The curved and side planting beds contain a variety of drought-tolerant plantings that include Cistus Ladanifer, Smoke Tree, Lavender, Black-eyed Susan, Penstemon and Grasses. And included a majestic olive tree to provide a lovely focal point that is also viewed from within the home.
The result is a beautiful, low maintenance landscape for the family to enjoy, with year-round color and appeal. And by removing the high maintenance and water thirty lawn, the homeowner now has more time to enjoy the garden and saves on the water bill!
