Sleepy Hollow, San Anselmo Residence. Creative Reuse of Brick for Pathways and a Patio for Landscape and New Gardens beds in the Front and Back of the Home.
A large portion of the front garden of this residence was covered with a sea of bricks. A bit unsightly and uneven and the homeowners were ready to transform their landscape. When appropriate, I always look for sustainable solutions in my landscape designs. For this landscape, re-purposing the brick was a perfect solution. In the front garden I designed curvaceous pathways using the brick and intersected them with new planting beds and a small lawn. In the backyard, I utilized the brick to create new pathways to surround the new L-shaped raised vegetable beds, and I also put the bricks to good use by designing a new patio beneath an existing maple tree off the master bedroom.
My design for this landscape also incorporated new planting beds and updates to others with a variety of drought tolerant plants, shrubs, trees and vines that provide year-round color, texture and appeal.

This project represents a very practical example of how homeowners can often re-purpose existing materials, and with a bit of creativity, and the help of a landscape designer, achieve a beautiful updated landscape, while saving money and minimizing sending waste to the landfills. Back to Portfolio
